The Kinder Science Days offer visitors the chance to meet real scientists and to talk with them. Through interactive live demonstrations children will easily explore time and space and can ask questions.

Astronomy ever since fascinates young and old people. Many adults positively remember first contact with astronomy in school, a subject which is hardly found today in the curricula.

The Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam (AIP) Potsdam is one of the main sites for astrophysical research in Germany.  For many years the Urania planetarium Potsdam inspires especially young people for science.

The first Kinder Science Day is about the large telescopes of the European Southern Observatory (ESO) in Chile. Dr. Adriane Liermann, astronomer from the AIP, will report firsthand about her work and the operation of the telescopes. In addition, visitors will learn about the southern sky, which is significantly different from ours.

After the interactive talk the children can tinker small cardboard telescopes that can be used for observing the moon. The next children's Science Day will be held on February 13, 2016 at 14.00 clock under the title "Wirbel im Weltall" with the speaker Dr. Janine Fohlmeister (AIP).
