IAU Symposium 354: Magnetfelder der Sonne und der Sterne
The Leibniz-Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam (AIP) and the New Jersey Institute of Technology jointly invite to a symposium of the International Astronomical Union. It will be taking place during the total solar eclipse in Chile in summer 2019. Its topic is one of AIPs central scientific interests: solar and stellar magnetic fields.

Hubble Pre-Symposium, 8th November, 2018
The Hubble Pre-Symposium is an opening event for the WE-Heraeus-Symposium “The Hubble constant controversy: status, implications and solutions”. The event brings together the experts in the various field of astronomy and astrophysics that are concerned with the determination of H0 and to discuss the most recent results, and possible implications. The Hubble Pre-Symposium takes place on Thursday, 8th November, 2018 at the Leibniz-Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam, Germany.
New professor for Stellar Physics and Exoplanets
18 October 2018. Prof. Dr. Katja Poppenhäger, expert on planets around other Suns, was successfully appointed as the head of the stellar physics and stellar activity section at the Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam (AIP), and as joint professor at the University of Potsdam, Germany.

A new season of the Babelsberg starry nights begins: On October 18, at 7.15 pm the Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam (AIP) invites you to the first event after the summer break. In memoriam of Prof. Hans Oleak
On September 7, 2018, Prof. Hans Oleak passed away at the age of 88. The Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam (AIP) mourns the loss of our esteemed colleague, who throughout his life shared his fascination for astrophysics.

Else Starkenburg receives Biermann Award from the Astronomical Society
22 August 2018. With the Ludwig Biermann Award, the Astronomical Society is honoring Dr. Else Starkenburg from the Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam (AIP) for her scientific work on the origin of our Milky Way and its neighbouring galaxies.
An astronomical midsummer night's dream with Moon and Mars
On the evening of July 27th, two special astronomical events will take place: the longest lunar eclipse of the 21st century and Mars close to the earth and at the same time inopposition to the sun. During this phase, the red planet is particularly good to observe.

Off to space: Potsdam Science Day on May 5th
Under the motto "Research. Discover. Participate." the Potsdam Science Day will take place for the sixth time on Saturday, May 5. More than 40 universities and research institutions in the region participate - including the Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam (AIP). Venue this year is the university campus in Potsdam-Golm.
Girls' Day/Future Day 2018 at AIP
On April 26, 2018, the Future Day will take place once again. On thisnationwide day of action, female students from the 5th grade onwards have the opportunity to gain insight into occupational fields in which women areunderrepresented.
